I'd say probably Ben McLemore, who had several articles written about him overcoming abject poverty, yet managed to pay out of state tuition to attend KU when he was declared ineligible his first year, and also took several flights to Los Angeles that year. "I think I probably paid for those trips myself....".
Brandon Rush, who attended something like six different high schools, flunked out or kicked out of most of them, denied enrollment by every single other school in the country, enrolling at KU a month into the semester and making the Dean's List. That was a good one.
An oldie but a goodie, Raef Lafrentz's parents, who were both lifetime public school employees in rural Iowa, retiring at age 40 and buying a house at the Lake of the Ozarks, and attending every game their son ever played, home or away.
