and riot assembly--from my bldg
As many of you are aware, there is a protest scheduled for today, Wednesday, September 20th at 5 p.m. at Shaw Park. This protest is in reaction to the recent verdict of the highly-publicized case of Jason Stockley, a police officer who was charged and acquitted in the 2011 death of Anthony Lamar Smith.
The City of Clayton is the seat of government for St. Louis County, and it is the City of Clayton’s goal is to facilitate the demonstrators’ constitutional right of assembly, however to support an environment that is safe for all concerned—residents, businesses, visitors and demonstrators.
Thank you to all who have reached out to us in concern. The management team at Clayton on the Park continues to be vigilant in our efforts to keep building security a top priority for you and we, along with city officials, have heightened security plans in place should a circumstance arise where this may be warranted. Although we do not anticipate any type of incident other than peaceful protests, however for the personal safety of our residents, the management team has made the decision to keep the front entry doors to Clayton on the Park locked throughout the day. To enter these doors, you must have your access card with you. Additional security will be present near the lobby as a precautionary measure and they will happy to assist all residents and guests throughout the day and evening.
Please be aware of the following precautions due to the possible disruption this evening:
· The protests are scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. today. There may be a challenge entering & exiting our attached parking garage that is owned and managed by the City of Clayton. Although the police and City will have extra attention focused on the parking garage, please consider adjusting your commute accordingly. (For example, if you normally arrive home between 4:30-6:00 p.m., it would make logical sense to be home prior to 4:00 p.m. or earlier to avoid traffic jams.)
· For your safety, we will close the front circle drive for traffic beginning early afternoon.
· The front doors will remain locked throughout the day. Please carry your access card with you for entry and exit.
· Please stay attentive in closing all building entry doors and escorting guests upon entering and exiting the building. Do not allow anyone to “piggyback” your entry into the building to your best ability. Each resident should use their own access card for entry.
· As always, every guest must be expected and escorted. If you are expecting a guest, please personally greet their arrival in the lobby.
· Dog Walking: Historically speaking, Shaw Park protests meet in the community area between the pool and ice rink, directly across from CotP. A popular area for dog walking, it would be in your best interest to complete dog walking prior to the scheduled protest. (Alternative exit/entry for dog walking could the 2nd Floor Garage Entrance: Exit on the CotP 2nd Floor into the Parking Garage, then follow the back garage entrance to the ally way located behind the building to the green space for pet relief.)
· For the safety of the Clayton on the Park staff, the Management Office will close at 3:00 p.m. today. The concierge, additional security, as well as key staff will be on site for emergency purposes, however we kindly ask that standard leasing business resume tomorrow.
· Above all, please use common sense. (Normal food deliveries, service requests, and errand running could present a few challenges. Be prepared for logical schedule adjustments and flexibility to keep everyone safe.)
