is more about customs than it is about immigration. Not bringing in illegal goods, organisms that could cause harm to our environment, etc. That was really the intent of a border system, not to be set up as an immigration checkpoint....However, when we decided to limit immigration, we then used the current border system to enforce those laws, and it has been woefully ineffective. my point is to go back to where it was and use it as a checkpoint for customs, not an immigration stronghold....or spending hundreds of billions of dollars to strengthen that stronghold.
