The US military spending is roughly 3.5% of the GDP.

That is an immense re-direction of resources (i.e. labor, raw resources, land, capital) to the build up of a destructive force abroad.

If those resources were not employed for destruction abroad, they could employed toward productive means at home.

It is hands down a net negative.
