the main difference here is that your chiropractor situation is a local company, right? When it happens with a large national business, it's just different, know what I mean?
Your complaint was two-fold; being overly nice and clingy. The clingy part is just very good customer service, I'll stand by that.
And it may be splitting hairs, but speaking to a person on the phone who has a set script they have to follow when speaking to a person they will never encounter in person is different than the friendliness (ok weird overfriendliness maybe) of an employee with whom you will interact with face to face with, especially in that kind of industry. Their job is to make you feel good; checking up on you, being nice, etc. is their way to show you they care more than the other local chiros.
And maybe I was just trying to give you a little sh*t too, ever think about that!? lol
