Dave Telep, ESPN’s senior national basketball analyst, said it’s a promising recruiting haul in the wake of the Tigers’ 30-5 season.
“A lot of people say, ‘Oh, you know, we had a good year. We’re going to capitalize on it,’ ... and it doesn’t happen,” Telep said. “Well, they had a really good year, and they definitely capitalized on it. I think that’s really, really a good sign going forward.”
Williams might be the most talented member of the class, but Telep calls Clark the most important.
He might be right, particularly if junior Phil Pressey enters the NBA draft after this season. If Clark’s performance on the summer camp circuit is any indication, he could be ready to rise to that challenge.
“He wasn’t the highest-rated point guard coming in to the LeBron” James Skills Academy, “but when it was over, he had the best week,” Telep said. “I think that there’s a significant chip that sits on Wesley Clark’s shoulder. I think he feels overlooked and underappreciated, and he damn sure plays that way. You can’t put a value on the toughness guys like that have.”
“Rankings are fine to look at, but at the end of the day, I think you evaluate this class on how it fits in your program,” Telep said. “I can see specifically each guy and how they fit the style of play.”
