The motive behind the erection of confederate statues was about soothing the injured pride of southerners who deny that the Civil War was about slavery. It was a subtle way for white southerner (i.e. white supremacists) to proclaim that the war was for noble reasons.

Take down the damn statues that are in public places for God's sake.

Please explain why this message is being reported.
