But often regulations come about solely due to political issues.
The problem with the EPA, in my opinion, is similar to my opinion of Unions. Unions helped build this country in many ways and got protections for workers where none were. However they also have closed shops down (not really helpful to their workers) and caused a lot of convoluted process for very simple actions. While they were very much a necessity, they have in many ways distorted their purpose or outlived it to a large degree as regulatory bodies have stepped in for the worker.
I remember when the EPA was formed in 1970. Many parts of our country were terribly ravaged by businesses dumping toxic waste into our streams, coal production without scrubbers, etc. They were very helpful for everyone. But then they kept expanding their role to the point where they are often regulating things that they were never intended to regulate. For example trying to regulate storm water runoff as a pollutant.
So I would like to see the EPA dramatically cut back and refocused on its primary objective. that does not mean that I love pollution in any way.
