for "Metropolitan Statistical Area". And no, Austin isn't a part of that MSA, although those towns are 18-30 miles from downtown Austin. Those towns aren't really suburbs of Austin, although those have grown so much that they swallowed the open space between them. Round Rock had only 12,000 people in 1980. There was miles of open space between Austin and Pflugerville in 1990.
You probably don't realize that I lived in Texas for several years, and that I apparently am more knowledgeable about that area's history.
