"likely" means "we don't know"

Not likely the common people spoke Greek or Hebrew. It is roundly agreed they spoke Aramaic exclusively. Remember, in Acts on Pentecost listeners marveled at the many languages the apostles could suddenly speak including Greek.
But the common language was Aramaic. There are some vestiges of it in the New Testament, left untranslated like Cephas (Greek transliteration for Keffa--Peter) or as we heard just this last week: Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?
Aramaic was the only likely language commonly used.
