What eternal flames of hell. Are you really proposing that an ALL-LOVING diety, creator of infinite Cosmos lays out the rule that if you do not do exactly as he says, you will be doomed to eternal pain and suffering.
Sorry, but that sounds like a dyck of a God.
The meaning of the word "sin" is to "miss the mark". Thus a all-powerful, all-knowing diety creates a feeble race (whose personal Jihads are very trying) so that if they in fact, miss that mark and "sin" - sorry guys but you are doomed to eternal damnation. Unless of course you express a belief or a thought that I offer - that one Nazarene preacher dies (as all men die) will save you from essentially your bad aim, or your missing the markd.
I like the Muslim idea of Jihad, that our life is a struggle to overcome our course instincts, our selfishness. I like that. I like too the Amish and the Shakers - hands to work, hearts to God.
