Afghanistan? It created a vacuum, a power struggle, and created Isis.
We left troops in Europe to stabilize it after World War II. You could argue that they are not needed there today, but they were in 1945. And 1965. And through the cold war.
Similarly, North Korea is a dangerous and destabilizing force with nuclear weapons. We fought a war there. If we had left… a vacuum, and the creation of a new and dangerous situation.
A question for you, what do you think would have happened between 1955 and now, if we had vacated the Korean peninsula? Stability, peace, harmony, what would have happened to Japan?
How big and how aggressive would china and North Korea be? What of the trade and the economic implications of a communist Korean Peninsula?
We needed to be there. We still do.
