What if Putin knew, acts aggrieved, steps up the rhetoric, but ultimately does nothing and it's nothing more than to give the appearance of a rift? I mean, what did it really cost Russia? No lives. Gives them a renewal order on military hardware as Syria will need to replace lost inventory. There are several ways this could go.
Just like - do we really know who used the gas in the first place? Was it Assad? Was it someone looking to put it on Assad as a pretext for this? What we don't know could lead us down any number of rabbit holes.
