I would have gone all in for Mack at Xavier or Bennett at Virginia. If they turned it down then I think you would have had to look at Holtmann at Butler, whom I think would have taken it.

Yep, that really hurt Alford. He also just isn't a very good coach. He was mediocre at Iowa. He actually had a losing record in BIG play. He was on the hot seat this year at UCLA until Lonzo Ball came to town. His overall accomplishments as a head coach are almost identical to Crean. He wouldn't have been an upgrade at all. I'm glad we dodged that bullet.
