1. So damn good blue blood programs will actually hire a family member or family friend to the coaching staff. If you hire him, he takes up a spot for potentially YEARS and if he can't coach and can't recruit it's a big hole on your staff. I can only name two players off the top of my head where this happened. Michael Beasley and Eric Gordon.
2. They have a family member or close family friend that is at least a tiny bit qualified to even be hired as an assistant coach.
Other dirty stuff happens, sure. But this does not happen all of the time. I'd rather have an assistant that can maybe bring me an handful of 4 and 5 stars over a 10 year period than hire some guy's dad and then after he's gone after one year, I have a totally unqualified unproven guy sitting on my bench instead of someone that can help the program.
