the school's biggest booster wouldn't allow Martin access to the plane for recruiting while the football staff flew anywhere they wanted. There's a quote from a big basketball booster at UT that went something like, "Martin's job is to take those boys off the playground and get them playing something other than ghetto ball." Martin's wife ran some kind of store and people were coming into her shop telling her how much they would rather have Pearl. Over 35,000 fans signed an online petition before his 3rd season saying they wanted Pearl back. UT cut the basketball recruiting budget after hiring him and before the start of the first season.
