Vanatta's overall performance was better, and taken in a vacuum, I can see where one could make that argument.
However, I'm unaware of any players refusing to go to class when Vanatta was coach, and becoming ineligible to play.
I'm also unaware of any NCAA issues which would cause a recruit to be hesitant to consider Mizzou.
I don't recall Vanatta dealing with the loss of a scholarship.
I don't remember Vanatta having to deal with the generally hostile view of the University of Missouri, Columbia campus, by St. Louisans while he was coach, such that few if any players, even lesser ones, would even consider plaing at Mizzou.
I must respectfully disagree with that narrative. Vanatta drove the program off the cliff with the worst 2 year finish in Mizzou history, and by a wide margin. I don't think that is even debatable, if you consider more than just the records, but also the attendant circumstances surrounding the programs.
