Most if not all religions tie to a Divine Source and a Deity.
Perhaps Ahura Mazda, Yahveh, Vishnu, Allah - might ring a bell. There is not God in Buddhism, therefore it is seen by many to represent a tradition and a spiritual one, but not a religion, per se. There are "some" who followed Jim Jones as a religion, does that make him one? My response is that Buddhism is not NECESSARILY a religion - does that make you feel better.
