The cost of educating 90% of our students in next to nothing. If you give classes full of students at grade level and ready to learn I can teach them by the dozens at very little cost.
But that last 10% is costing us an arm and a leg. The cost of a single special needs kid can be more than an entire class of 'regular' kids.
Even though our liberal friends don't want to hear it the cost of educating illegals is costing us tons of cash. The last school I worked in had about a 70% Hispanic population which included a huge number of non-English speakers. At that school we had almost as many parra professional helpers as we did teachers. Almost every class I taught included language support and almost none of them were flagged as special needs classes.
