that's pretty ridiculous IMO. i lived in IL for 7yrs

downtown Chicago for the most of it.

i traveled around some of IL while i lived there, the state doesn't have a problem. the very south & west sides of Chicago have a problem.

although the one bit of anecdotal 'evidence' i have... i watched the '07 Super Bowl in a very 'south' friend's house. i was the only white dude there. it was a blast. at one point i told my friend (owner of the house) that i was gonna walk to the corner store to get cigarettes (i smoked at the time), she suggested i have her nephew walk with me. i declined and walked by myself. i got some weird looks and the owner of the store told me i was crazy to be walking alone. ...but nothing happened. all was fine.

there's an issue in deep west & south Chicago, but i really don't think it's random violence. it's mostly all related to issues between people in poverty, or near poverty. and most of those people happen to be black.
