I didn't take the ACT until spring of my senior year.

No one ever encouraged me to take it earlier. I decided to just take the last one available because I knew I only needed a 24 to get into Mizzou, and that wouldn't be a problem.
I also never took the PSAT because no one told me it was important. We'd taken a similar test not long before that was treated simply as a practice for the ACT, so I assumed the PSAT was likewise just kind of practice. Had no idea there were actual awards tied to it.
I know educators have a hard job. I did it for a brief period myself. But there is a ton of stuff that simply doesn't get done well, especially in this regard (both with normal students and athletes).
