Thank you for your civil tone.
My point is that bans don't make us safer. I think it's actually the opposite.
Actions like these send very powerful messages to people. People who are predisposed to throw in with us versus the f***ed up countries they're trying to flee.
Human nature is human nature, no matter where you're from. If someone shows you and your family some compassion and understanding during a time of great need and peril, will you forget that?
Many of the soldiers we sent to Europe and the Pacific were immigrants only one generation removed from Japan & Germany. In some cases they were literally fighting against their cousins. Yet they fought for the US.
Look at what our leaders did after WWII... That was a bitter, brutal war, yet did we exact revenge on Germany and Japan? No. Our leaders knew that rebuilding those nations and forging alliances with them was the best thing they could do to ensure the security of future generations of Americans. What was good for the Germans and Japanese was good for us.
Hammering them might have provided some short term satisfaction, but it wouldn't have helped us in the long term. I see the same thing here...
