innocent human beings for any or no reason whatsoever is rather different than executing someone for a capital offense after a trial and any appeals that may have followed.

Fwiw, I'm generally against the death penalty in the US, though I think it could be legitimately used under some circumstances. I just don't think those circumstances prevail in the US at the present time in our history.
