success is far greater for the teams with stronger rated recruiting classes. To my knowledge in the modern era (past 25 years), there has never been a national champion without a top 20 recruiting class.
Though the evaluation process is still far from perfect, those that grade prospects and recruiting classes have many more resources and opportunities available today compared to 10-15 years ago to evaluate players.
Those fanbases that have the top ranked recruiting classes more often than not reep the rewards, while whose with mediocre classes criticize the system and/or downplay the significance by focusing on the random anomoly of the failed 5-star or 2-star All-American.
The bottom line is that stars do matter!
