Unless you're in that hypocritical, sleazy, ignorant, useless coterie of life forms we call demlibs. Funny, haven't heard this from the MSM pimps.
President Trump Gets His Wall — Thanks To Democrats
By now, you likely know that President Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday to build a wall between Mexico and the U.S. What you perhaps didn't know is that Democrats can't stop him. Why? They've already approved it.
Whether you like the idea or not, building a wall to slow the flood of illegal immigration into the U.S. from Mexico and Central America was one of the signature pledges that President Trump made while on the campaign trail.
"I would build a great wall, and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me, and I'll build them very inexpensively," Trump said when he announced his campaign for the presidency in 2015.
"And I will make Mexico pay for that wall," he added. "Mark my words."
On Wednesday, in partial fulfillment of that pledge, Trump ordered the wall to be built and also cut federal funding for so-called sanctuary cities.
The idea of a border wall still rankles Democrats, as it did during last year's presidential campaign. But if Donkey Party lawmakers really want to know who's to blame for Trump's wall, they need only look in the mirror.
As the Daily Caller reported earlier this month, Trump is building the wall under the authority of a bill passed way back in 2006 and signed into law by President George W. Bush with lots of Democratic support.
It's a classic case of a political party being too clever by half. Many Democrats, fearful of an electoral backlash, signed on to the idea of building a wall knowing that they could stall it in Congress. If they won control of both houses, the bill to build a wall would become a dead letter. They thought they had killed the idea for sure in 2008, by amending a spending bill to essentially defund the project.
So they were for the wall before they were against it.
Among the Democrats who signed off on the law are a Who's Who of the Democratic Party.
"In addition to then Sens. Obama, Biden and Clinton, 64 House Democrats and 23 Senate Democrats voted for the wall in 2006," wrote the Daily Caller's Rachel Stoltzfoos. "Many of them are still in Congress, including newly established Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer."
Now the Democrats have been hoisted by their own petard, so to speak. Their cynical vote to approve the wall was pure political theater to fool voters back home that they were really doing something to control rampant illegal immigration into the U.S. In fact, they weren't interested in doing anything about it.
If nothing else this should be another lesson in humility for the Democrats, who seem these days to be the smarty-pants party. Through their own duplicity with their own voters, they handed Trump a bloodless victory on building a border wall. It may explain in part why many states seem to be turning red from blue these days.
Yes, congressional Democrats can still stop the wall by shutting down the government when a budget bill containing money for the project is voted on. But, good luck with that. Voters are in an ornery mood, and might not be too forgiving once they're reminded by the media and Republicans that they were hoodwinked on the wall by leading Democrats.
In the January IBD/TIPP Poll, just 19% of Americans ranked building a wall and deporting illegal aliens as one of their three top priorities for the new Trump presidency. That said, it shows just how seriously Trump takes his early enthusiastic pledge to build a wall — he made it his priority.
Even for those who aren't so hot about building a wall, and that includes some conservative Republicans, they still might be thrilled to see a politician actually delivering on a promise — a real rarity these days. Imagine that: A politician keeping his word.
