mistakes his predecessor made.

Lucky for him his predecessor chose to act alone for most of what he did. That means Trump can correct a vast majority of the damage with simple executive orders. Since Obama never bothered to involve the legislative branch that means Trump will not need them for most of the heavy lifting.
