When someone with a record applies for a job at MU

It isn't apparent until the background check is run - that isn't requested until post-offer.
In this case what would have come back are the bad check convictions - the criminal matters. The eviction/failure to pay rent wouldn't have come up as those are civil matters. Those offenses would have been matched up against the duties of the job she was being hired for. Since there were no fiscal responsibilities to being a tutor she would not be immediately disqualified for hire. However, it was always my experience with Campus HR that they would point out issues that weren't immediate DQ but should be considered. Per System policy they cannot tell the hiring department exactly what is on the background check but they will prompt the hiring department to do some examination into person they want to hire.
In this case someone in the Total Person Program was set on hiring her and probably did so against the advice of Campus HR.

Shift
8:00am – 5:00pm – Monday thru Friday; Nights and Weekends as required.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
A Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Counseling or a related area. Working knowledge of NCAA academic eligibility rules and recruiting rules/procedures is highly desired; strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; ability to work weekend and evening hours on occasion.
