If progressives cannot even define themselves how are conservatives expected to do so?

I find it very interesting that the conservatives on the board have no problem identifying as conservatives but the progressives always try to pass themselves off as much more moderate than they really are. Why is that? Shouldn't you be proud of your convictions? If you advocate single payer health care and wage redistribution then what is the issue with being upfront about it and admitting that they are very liberal views?

I believe, by and large, that people are capable of providing for themselves and their families and the government is only needed as a safety net and is only needed for that small percentage who have fallen on hard times and need temporary assistance. I also believe that we are a Constitutional Republic and that the federal government only has powers enumerated in the Constitution. These are conservative views and I do not try top pass them off as anything but.

Before the idiot clan pipes in I do not really care what Pickle and JG think conservatism may be I am working from the standard accepted definition of American political conservatism.
