There are some Republicans who are lukewarm and half hearted in their support of protecting the helpless unborn, to be sure. But voting for a half-hearted opponent of grave evil as far better than voting for a strong proponent and champion of mass murder.
Efforts have been made and progress has been made... witness the laws passed over the vehement objections of the pro-choice to deliberately, often brutally slaughter tens of millions of innocent human beings crowd. Witness the reduction in the number of abortions performed.
The Democrats have been successful in thwarting efforts to bring in sane Supreme Court justices, such as Judge Robert Bork, but the Republicans have made progress there anyway, certainly far more than would have been the case with the Democratic alternatives.
Whenever the Republicans make some progress to the point that they're about ready to overturn Roe v Wade another Democrat gets in... Clinton & Obama that eliminates much of the progress made and thwarts efforts that would have ended the genocide, or at least limited it in a massive way.
