JW3 selected MU over Michigan State/Georgetown/Memphis in Oct 2012. At the time MU was coming off a season in which they were the Big 12 champion and had secured a #2 seed in the NCAA tourney after finishing the season ranked #3 nationally in the AP poll. The preseason poll for 2012-13 would come out the next week, with MU ranked #15.
MU then hired a DII coach, fired the assistant that brought him here, and won an astonishingly low 9 games in which he was asked to consistently do things that he wasn't capable of doing and shoulder the focal point of being what may have been the least efficient offense in the last decade in college basketball. To say MU went in a drastically different direction than the program he committed to is quite the understatement. Surely we can all sympathize with him wanting to take his playing career in a different direction.
