choice.
And although I thought Washington deserved to be the 4th team, I would say the same thing even if Michigan or PSU had been the 4th team in. You can make a good argument for any of those 3 teams being the 4th pick. Or for any of them not being. It's not like one of those teams was significantly unlike the other.
But this "Ohio State is such an awful, egregious mistake to make the playoff over PSU or anyone else that didn't make it" stuff is just ridiculous. Their entire resume clearly qualifies them as one of the top 3 teams in the country. I thought it was wrong to even drop them to #3 in the final ranking behind Clemson, although it makes no difference in who they play.
Don't know how many times I have to explain this to the "PSU got robbed" crowd, but the committee did not see OSU and PSU as even being close, or 'comparable' to each other for a number of weeks now, not before OSU beat Michigan, or after.
Of the top 6 teams, only OSU and Alabama pounded a top 10 OOC opponent, and only OSU did it in a true road game. Bama was on a neutral field. Michigan also beat a top 10 OOC team, but they did it at home and had to come from behind in the second half to win by 17. PSUs OOC 'highlight' was losing to a 4 loss Pitt team that ended up ranked #23.
OSU had 3 wins against top 10 teams in the regular season, as did Michigan. PSU had 1. They got their second one in the title game. Alabama had 1 top 10 win, in the first game of the season. Washington had none in the regular season. Clemson had none in the regular season (although they did have wins against #11 and #13).
And no contender among the top 6 teams got absolutely hammered in any game this year like PSU got hammered at Michigan, 49-10. Among comparable teams, that is disqualifying for me. Most of the other top contenders were literally a play or two away from an undefeated season. PSU? Not even close.
