flips the script from a few years ago when the SEC West was so dominant, but flopped in bowl games, needing the East to salvage some conference pride. But the SEC as a whole took a hit reputation wise.
This year the B1G is widely regarded as the better conference. But they had three 6-6 teams barely qualify for bowls on the last weekend of the regular season, and had 4 just awful conference teams that won 3 or fewer games each (MSU, Illinois, Purdue, Rutgers) who went 4-32 in conference games.
I see the SEC with the potential of doing quite well in bowls this year, and the B1G flopping. Part of that is due to them having 4 teams in the 6 top bowl games, to be sure. But they have some tough match ups. I see PSU and Michigan losing to USC and Florida State respectively. Wisconsin is in a no win situation against a dangerous MAC team in Western Michigan. Minnesota, Northwestern, and Indiana got really tough draws in Wash State, Pitt, and Utah respectively. And I'm not very impressed with Nebraska or Iowa, who have to play Tennessee and Florida.
Setting aside the playoff games, I think the B1G will go anywhere from 4-5 to 2-7 in bowl games, and the SEC will go at least 7-4 or 8-3.
Auburn has a really tough draw with Oklahoma, everything else is very winnable. Best non playoff SEC games I'm really looking forward to:
LSU-Louisville
TAMU-Kansas State
Auburn-Oklahoma
Georgia-TCU
