playoff almost literally. 10 teams will be playing for those auto bids. Outside of that it's a soft 16 or more playoff due to at large's.

That will make for great championship games because "losers" in that game will be fighting to the end. There are still 3 at large spots (I'm not sure about the auto non P5 school).

From the SEC only perspective...moving to 8 teams would block Mike Slive's undermining of the conference. We can now get more than one team in the playoff, as other P5 conferences could.

It satisfies the justice of earning the spot
It satisfies TV geography $
It satisfies flexible $ due to 3 at large picks
It satisfies that OOC games matter.

It just makes too much sense.
