Yesterday, I saw a glimmer of hope. Having had low expectations and generally thinking Kim Anderson is not a good long-term solution, I must say I was pleasantly surprised.
Yesterday was the highest hopes I'd had for the Tigers since the Braggin' Rights game in Kim's first season. I look around, I see some young talent, and I think, maybe this will develop into something with time.
Of course, the Tigers caught a tough break against the Illini that day, losing on a half-court, contested, buzzer beater. And then, that team, never recovered. In my head, I thought - maybe that team could've been a lot better, if only they'd caught a lucky break and won that game, instead of losing it. Maybe things turn out differently.
And then yesterday, again clutching defeat from the ever elusive jaws of victory.
And I wonder, especially after today's game: will this team ever recover from it, develop confidence, and turn into something better than they are now? Or, will they, like Kim's first team, mail it in after mid-January and get beat by 30 a night for the rest of the season?
Time will tell.
