very have been a very good teacher at one point. Having taught in the inner city for 25+ years I can actually sympathize with her. Sadly to do that job well for years you have to become a bit detached. You have to do your absolute best for the students without becoming too emotionally attached. When that happens you start taking their failures personally. After that an outburst like hers becomes possible.
