heard an interesting discussion on it last night after the game. Commentator was saying that Trump knew exactly what he was doing and had the instincts to keep doing it, even when it seemed politically incorrect, because when he was one of 17 Rep potential nominees, it was the only way to distinguish himself since he wasn't going to win on policy.

The commentator went on to say that he may have miscalculated in not becoming more mainstream during the general, after winning the nomination, but that Trump has always seemed to know how to read the crowd.
