Hard to read too much into scrimmages. A few years ago, DePaul actually beat Wisconsin when three of its players went nuts from three. However, that DePaul team went on to finish last in its conference while Wisconsin was its usual great self.

Coaches also try different combinations of players that would probably not be used normally and also try different plays, schemes, etc. to see if they might be used in the future.

It is not a true game, either. Many of these, they actually stop play to instruct. Not all of them, but many do.

I know a few years ago, Illinois hammered West Virginia in one of these, but West Virginia turned out to be the better team during the season.

It's just not a true indicator of much, imo.
