According to the NBA’s transaction page, the San Antonio Spurs waived guard Marcus Denmon on Friday.
The Spurs drafted Denmon with the 59th second round pick back in 2012. Since then, Denmon has been playing his professional career overseas with stops in France, Italy, Turkey and most recently in China.
The Spurs have had Denmon on several of their Summer League teams over the last few summers as well, but he had yet to sign a contract with the team for the regular season or training camp.
Per RealGM.com’s transaction log, the Spurs submitted the necessary required tender in order to maintain control of Denmon’s draft rights earlier this month on September 8. It appears, though that Denmon might have signed the tendered offer, which might explain why the Spurs waived him on Friday, since their 2016 training camp roster is expected to be maxed out with 20 players already.
With Denmon being waived, he’s now able to sign with any NBA team if such a deal is offered to him.
