that they oversample party X! They undersample party Y!
One, oversampling is totally valid when trying to get the opinions of smaller populations (like, stay-at-home-moms between 25-45) where you're trying to measure a group. However, you can control for that in the overall population. Two, Polls that consistently demonstrate inaccuracies aren't going to be taken seriously over time and will be discounted.
In the end, I believe that you'll find many of the polls given an "A" rating by 538 to be withing 2 pts of the actual voting results.
