approach and challenges:
“Recruiting is about the whole package. It’s not just about style of play, coaching staff, players, player development. It’s about the fan base. It’s about an atmosphere. There’s a lot of things that factor into recruiting kids like that.
“We’ve got to have all that in place. We’ve got to be selling this place out again. Because it’s great to bring kids in on football visits because it’s during their offseason, but we would like to bring them in in basketball season to show them our atmosphere, but we’ve got to get our atmosphere up to that standard that those level kids would like. We know that will happen because we’re going to win.”
“We never got involved in the recruiting process at Huntington. We just showed them the ins and outs and what you should be looking for. But the ultimate decision is what is in your best interest. I’d be a hypocrite if I said that he should come here just because I’m here. That’s never going to be the case. I would never approach any kid like that.”
“It’s tough. The year we had — it was hard to keep that top-15, top-25 tier player interested,” he said.
“That’s one of the first things we’ve said,” he said. “We didn’t play to expectations. We didn’t win many games, but here’s how we fixed, and here’s how you help.”
