but it is not necessary to have motion. The motion started after the big bang caused inflation of the universe and material was ejected into that space.
We spin and rotate as a residual effect of the formation of our solar system. Earth's rotation is slowing down due to gravitational drag and will eventually be tidally locked with the sun, just as the moon is with the earth. All of these things will eventually slow down if there is a force to provide drag.
