He said by his faith he doesn't believe in the death penalty, but Virginia has the death penalty and when the issue came up he had to follow the law of the state because that was his duty as governor. He also said he didn't think a governor or any politician should ever jam their faith down the throats of their constituents and that it was a clear line of demarcation for him.

Additionally, he made Pence look like the dude from the Stone Ages that he is when he countered Pence's meandering reply about the sanctity of life with a simple question of why women can't make their own reproductive decisions a question right in line with his response about the death penalty, i.e. I don't necessary like it, but we are a free country where laws and more importantly, the Constitution, must be upheld for good or for bad.
