There are legitimate limits on freedom.
People are free to drive, but must drive on the correct side of the road, obey the speed limits and stop at stop signs and red lights.
I personally think that capital punishment is overused and really unnecessary to protect society in most modern western nations, but do think that it could be a just punishment and a necessary means of protecting a society under some circumstances.
People sentenced to capital punishment were deemed to have been guilty of committing a serious crime and are responsible for the predicament that they are in. Of course, there may be errors and individual cases can and should be examined in detail to eliminate such errors.
But that is quite different than sentencing a human being to execution for no reason other than their mere existence don't you think?
