Missouri apparently has filled its 2006 recruiting class with the addition of guard Chris Singletary, who gave the Tigers a verbal commitment yesterday. Missouri’s attractiveness to Singletary began when assistant coach Lance Irvin, another Chicago native, joined Snyder’s staff during the off-season.
"Chris had a very good summer playing for the Illinois Fire, an AAU program, which Lance’s dad and brother are very involved in," said Matt Ramker, the director of basketball operations at Florida Prep. "So they had a very natural relationship, and that was what got Missouri right in the door, was the relationship with Lance."
Singletary, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs about 210 pounds, grew up in Chicago, where he played at Farragut Academy before transferring to Florida Prep, a school of about 100 students in Port Charlotte, Fla. He averaged 24 points, eight assists and seven rebounds per game as a junior last season at Farragut and helped lead his team to the Elite Eight as a sophomore.
Singletary said he’s aware of the uncertainty surrounding Coach Quin Snyder’s future.
"I don’t really know too much," Singletary said. "Hopefully, coach will have a good season and he’ll still be there and I’ll be able to sign."
