You talk as if it's a birthright. Why? What makes you or Mizzou so special that it is a birthright of yours? Hopefully this helps you understand that you have false expectations about your birthrights and your basketball team, which is largely a fiction in your mind.
Mizzou has never been in a Final Four. Twice we've had Elite Eight results deemed losses due to NCAA infractions. So just what is it in Mizzou's history that fosters this false narrative of being a top all-time program? Conference championships? Those are nice, and Norm used to settle for that. When did somebody bring home a Regional Championship trophy?
The fact is that we've never been as good as you and FIJI want to pretend. Being very good and being championship material are two entirely different things. That you hold up some mediocre standard and say we have this great tradition is laughable.
We were national championship caliber a few times in the 1910s and the 1920s. We might have been in one or two years since then, but couldn't close the deal. We haven't been an elite program since the early 1900s. We've had a few teams which could be considered elite, but not an elite program. We've almost always been passed over by the top of the top of players in the country, even those from our own state, except for a very few.
"Being in the tournament is expected." Way to settle for mediocrity. I want way more than simple appearances in the NCAAs. I want to see a national championship.
That said, I will support the current coach, barring unethical conduct or a serious moral breech. I won't expect certain levels, because I know better than to set myself up for disappointment. However, I have hope that someday we can reach elite status, and have a legitimate chance to actually go to a Final Four, and win a national championship. But I'm patient, and know Rome wasn't built in a day.
