In the 50's and 60's the main stream Church got involved in politics with the democratic party. After WW2 and Roosevelt it wasn't a far stretch. It eventually led to the lack of interest in the main stream church. However it didn't hurt the Democratic party at all Right now I see the same thing happening to the Evangelical Church you have some crazy ass people getting off of the focus
