"most underachieving in the country" by citing a single year's director's cup standings in relation to Missouri and Northwestern. The exact opposite has been true.
Not only did you use a terribly small sample size to generalize, but your assertions about market size and proximity to Chicago and B10 revenue don't prove Illinois is the most underachieving.
Whether or not it's "acceptable" wasn't your point, but I'll go with it. Should Illinois athletics do better? Absolutely. FB has been an underachiever and BB the last 5-7 years has as well considering it's typically been a top 20 all time program historically. Those are the two biggest revenue sports and overshadow th success of the other sports (men's golf, volleyball, track, men's tennis) which have had immense success nationally in the last decade.
Don't blame me because you overreached with your assertion and displayed an ignorance of Illinois sports.
