From interfering with the AD hiring process.

Several reporters said that KA was not a candidate for the job early on. Alden missed on Marshall, but still had a few really quality candidates that were interested. Wolfe or someone high up told him to hire KA. Wasn't his choice.
Howland or Mack were proven as major conference coaches.
