I do think a coach with more recent DI experience, even as an assistant, wouldn't have lost to UMKC.
Granted, most other coaches probably wouldn't have recruited the same players. Someone with DI experience probably wouldn't have brought in Isabell and Allen, for example.
One thing about KA's background that's always made me hesitate to assume things can't change in a hurry is that his national title team featured a roster that was primarily brand-new players. Five of their top six scorers and six of their top 10 were new to the team (10 total new additions on the roster). He took a bunch of new guys and got them to buy in quickly and had an amazing year. That's a skill that IMO can translate.
