Last year, it was supposed to be either Howell or Cuellar

at LT with the other moving to RT. Howell wasn't eligible and Cuellar got in trouble with Mauk. Then once he was off suspension, he couldn't crack the starting lineup. Then he quit football altogether. So that tells me the guy came in (from JUCO) and didn't have the desire or drive to work. That's fine. Happens.
My though is that because it worked with Morse, the staff could plug in McGovern at LT. Didn't work. McGovern needed to be next to Boehm. Morse is a freak athlete that could play any position on the line. He went from LT to C in the NFL and is already one of the best C in the league.
Then Boehm gets rolled up 3rd play of the season. High ankle. For a big boy to play through it, very very admirable. But he didn't have the push and couldn't sustain the weight against him. That was obvious. He got pushed around a lot. But Abeln wasn't quite ready to take over at C.
Abeln also wasn't quite ready to play OG, which also leads us to the other major issue of guys not quite physically ready to play at this level. Not their fault, but primarily the fault of GP and staff whiffing on recruiting. There was a gap year and it bit us last year.
So you had Boehm hurt, McGovern woefully out of position, (2) JUCOs not even seeing the field, Abeln, Adams, and Pendleton not quite ready, and the other SRs not worth a damn. McNulty, who played pretty good the year before, was a bit of a head scratcher. No idea what happened to him. Perhaps he was hurt and we didn't know it. In any event if it was this year and Chappell, McNulty, and Hall were SRs, they wouldn't start.
Also and allegedly, Ricker wanted to give Adams and Pendleton more snaps and earlier in the season and GP vetoed it. And does that surprise you?
